Hawaii Five-0 Fiction, Steve/Danny, Weave.
Title: Weave.
Paring/s: Steve/Danny
Genre: Fluffy Romance.
Rating; PG13
Warnings/Spoilers: None.
Summary: Very, very loosely based on The Very Hungry Caterpillar. In one small week, Steve and Danny start their transformation.
AN: this is my first H50 fic and a lot, a lot cuter, than I’d intended it to be :D

one [kiss]

On Monday, Steve pins Danny against the Camaro with nothing but his dark, determined gaze.

“I want to kiss you,” he tells Danny, tongue out to sweep at his bottom lip, to reinforce the point. It’s no revelation; Steve’s been hungry for this for months now, and subtlety in sex has never been his forte.

“Okay,” Danny agrees, throwing back his shoulders and clearing his throat. “Okay, I guess I will allow you to kiss me, it’s not like I haven’t - ”

Steve pins Danny against the Camaro, but this time with his mouth, with soft, steady hands at his neck, in his hair. Danny slick-slides his mouth open for Steve, to have, and taste. It’s not enough, he could never get enough, but he pulls away anyway and puts good distance between them. “Thank you,” he says, as they both catch their breath, watching as Danny starts to grin.

“You’re welcome.”

two [hoaloha]

On Tuesday, Steve calls Chin and Kono into his office while Danny’s out getting lunch. He tells them, in-between breaths and no warning,

“Danny and I are dating. Each other.” Chin, who’s half way into his seat, freezes; while Kono slaps her hand to her mouth, barely containing her excitement.

“Before you say anything, I want you to know I’m not telling you this as your co-worker. I know it won’t damage the team.” Steve shifts uncomfortably, but is open, honest with his words. “I’m telling you this as your friend. I want you to know.”

Chin finally plops down on his chair and Kono moves her hand away, a small, warm smile playing at the corner of her mouth.

“Any questions?” Steve says, coughing, fiddling with a pen. Kono must have a million, but it’s Chin who speaks, instead.

“No, brah, no questions,” he replies, and it sounds like, there was never any question. “Just, ho'omaika'i.”

three [tie]

On Wednesday, Steve curls Danny’s tie under the collar of his shirt, slow and gentle fingers. He might be shaking, and maybe Danny sees, because he says, “I’ll be back tomorrow,” while Steve steels his expression.

“I know.”

“It’s for Grace. If Rachel asked me to jump off a bridge for Grace - ”

“I know.” Steve knows. He knew from the start, before he really knew Danny, and knew how he felt about Danny. When Steve was stupid and insecure and thought a night away with the mother of his child might stir something in Danny.

“Then what’s with the Abandoned and Lonely face?”

“I don’t have a - ”

“Excuse me? This is the third tie you’ve tied in less than five minutes. I can see the face, don’t tell me you don’t have a face.”

Steve finishes, and flattens his palms over Danny’s chest. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he says, monotone and plain faced, and Danny laughs.

“You’re thinking, how can he leave me so soon? I need to monitor his every movement, I need to smother him with my affection but somehow be aloof at the same - ”

Steve curls a hand around Danny’s tie and pulls him in, kisses him, tells him, you’re right, you’re right, with no words. Tells him, I want you, stay, go, come back.

four [limb]

On Thursday, Steve’s asleep on his couch when Danny shuffles in, quiet, late.

“You said you’d be back,” Steve grumbles into the cushions, hating himself for the tone.

“That’s what I am, babe,” Danny whispers, and Steve listens to the sound of him kicking off his shoes, his feet padding over. Steve stays where he is, belly down, still and defiant as Danny’s hands run across his bare feet and legs. “Is this how it’s going to be?”

Danny moves up, over Steve, slow and sore knee wedged between his hip and the sofa. He runs the tip of his nose along the shell of Steve’s nose, quiet, sexy voice, “You’re going to ignore me like a little child? Even though I did everything possible to make it on time, even though it’s still the day I said I’d be here? You’re still going to ignore me?”

It’s hard to ignore the warm welcome press of Danny’s chest, broad against his back. The tangle of their legs, and legs, and all the little hairs on Steve’s skin, standing on end. “Shut up,” Steve says, but he rolls over, taking Danny in, slotting together. Danny’s face in his neck, Steve’s hand in his hair, cocks and knees and toes.

“How did it go?” he asks, indifferent and faking it, feeling the wave of Danny’s breath on his skin.

“Grace is still mine and Rachel’s still in the way,” he says. “So you’re stuck with me.”

Steve tightens his grip, tucks his leg over Danny’s leg, keeps him. “That’s too bad.”

five [minute]

It’s Friday, and Steve’s preparing a raid with no backup while Kono tries to talk him down.

“He should be out by now,” he hisses into the phone, one foot out of the car. “He said he’d be back in five. It’s now eight.”

“Boss - ”

“Don’t.” He hates Kono’s reasonable tone because it means he’s being unreasonable. When he was just Navy, just Steve, without the five-0, without Danny; back then he barely knew what unreasonable meant. “Just, don’t.”

“If you’d just wait for Chin Ho.”

Steve’s already half way across the road with his gun cocked, says, “Tell him to meet me inside,” and hangs up on her. He’ll be sorry later, buy Kono some flowers –no, beer - even, but right now all he knows is, “Danny.”

Danny’s coming out of the building, sliding on his glasses and looking like something out of a 50s noir film. All class and easy moves. “What are you doing with your gun out right now, are you insane? Put it away, they might be watching.”

Steve doesn’t bother to argue, disarming, and disarmed with his mouth hung open. “I thought - ”

“What? That I’m useless?” Danny’s swinging his hands around but his voice is level, and light. “That I couldn’t ask a harmless, retired mob boss a few questions without the aid of SuperSteve and his paranoia?”

The tense ache in Steve’s chest, and the shiver of his spine, are replaced with a too big grin, all relief and satisfaction. “Actually, I thought you were in trouble and it scared the shit out of me.”

Danny gapes at him for a while, blinking like he missed something. “Well,” he finally says. “Well, get in the car and take me to your place then, if you’re so worried.”

Steve’s grin spins into a laugh.

six [word]

On Saturday, Steve’s so furious it’s making him sick. Danny’s ranting at a volume and speed that will soon lead to yelling, and Steve’s pacing in and out the room to catch his breath.

“Look at you! This is what I’m talking about! You ask me to move in with you, like it’s some wonderful and romantic gesture, but you can’t even look at me when I talk to you!”

“This isn’t talking, Danny, you passed that a few decibels ago.”

“That’s what I do! I get loud and annoyed and go on forever and you get all prickly and stubborn.” He’s waving his hands around so much even Danny knows he looks ridiculous. He settles them on hips and sighs. “Then I go home to my house and feel refreshed and ready for another round of McGarrett. It works, Steve, it’s working and you’re trying to be a boy scout about it and see what all the shiny buttons do.”

“That makes no sense.”

“We’re new. We are so new, and here you are trying to establish us a home when we haven’t got the foundation down yet.”

Steve rolls his eyes. “That’s, poetic, but it’s not true. I’ve been building something with you since the first day.”

“I know that. I’m not saying you haven’t, listen. I’m just saying that you jump into things without thinking of the consequences. What happens to the five-0 if we can’t make it work? What happens to Grace if she gets comfortable here and I take it all away? What happens if - ”

“I love you,” is the only answer Steve has, and it quiets Danny at least. “If you want to wait, that’s fine. I’ll wait until I’m old and grey … er and physically incapable of doing anything but listen to you complain.”

Danny makes an almost silent sound, shaking his head and shuffling over, bringing them in close. “I love you,” he says right back, then, “I love you,” like he can’t believe it, or he can’t believe it’s that easy to say.

seven [rest]

On Sunday, Steve leaves the boxes to decorate the hallway, and tends to breakfast instead. Danny – who’d called a favour in from Rachel – is helping Grace whisk the eggs, while Chin and Kono are out setting the table.

“If there’s no bacon, we’re leaving,” Danny says matter-of-factly, while Grace nods her head.

“Pancakes, too,” she adds. “Stan makes good pancakes.”

Steve can’t decide if he’s threatened by the remark, or impressed with how well she plays the game. Seeing the satisfied smirk on Danny’s face, he figures it’s the latter. “We might have bacon,” he says judicially, unable to help his grin as he meets them by the stove. “We might have pancakes. I can’t make promises.”

“Okay, Gracie,” Danny says sternly. “Put the whisk down, we’re outta here.” He throws Grace over his shoulder, and she’s giggling at Steve as Danny starts toward the door, a slow march.

“Wait, wait, wait, you didn’t let me finish.” Danny spins gently, Grace settling on his hip. His brow is up and his eyes are playful. Steve wants to kiss him. “I can’t promise breakfast but I can promise something.”

“Cash? Diamonds? Carmen Electra?”

“A pony?” Grace suggests.

“I can promise that you will have bacon, some day, and pancakes, some day, and toast and hash browns and muesli - ”

Danny coughs, “Malasadas.”

Some day, because,” Steve scratches at the back of his head. This was supposed to go a lot smoother. “Because this is your home too, now, and all my some days are yours.”

They’re quiet and considerate for a moment, and Steve watches Danny watch Grace, like maybe this will be okay; Hawaii, life, and them and the long haul.

“Sorry, no, we want pancakes now,” Danny says, and he’s running to the door as fast as his knee will take him, and Grace is squealing and Steve is chasing them, even if they’re already his.

Loved this - you captured Steve's blunt instrument style and bravery as well as his uncertainty and all-in attitude to everything. Such a dear and lovely story!
